AI Engineering · Newcastle · Canarlo, Leeds
A Yorkshire AI development company working with Newcastle's digital, data and engineering businesses remotely. Fixed scope, code you own, plain answers.
Working in Newcastle
Newcastle Helix, built on the old Scottish & Newcastle brewery site, is where the city has put its money on data and digital. The National Innovation Centre for Data and Newcastle University's Urban Sciences Building are there, alongside a growing set of start-ups and scale-ups. Add Sage, whose headquarters is on the edge of the city, and you have a place where people already understand software businesses and what it takes to run one.
The region's older strengths haven't gone. Offshore, subsea and marine engineering still run along the Tyne and up the North East coast, with a supply chain for offshore renewables behind them. Those firms deal in inspection data, project documentation and compliance trails: unstructured paper where careful AI is very useful and careless AI is dangerous. The public sector is a major employer too, with large government offices at Longbenton and a big NHS presence.
So Newcastle tends to bring two kinds of brief. Product teams want AI built into their software that they can ship on a Friday without holding their breath. Operations-heavy organisations want document and records work done properly, with sources shown and decisions logged. Both are best served by someone prepared to say when AI isn't the answer. The first call ends with a recommendation, and sometimes it is a cheaper tool than the one you rang about.
Where AI pays off
Search subsea and offshore inspection reports and project documents with citations back to the source page, and draft summaries a human checks.
Release checks for product teams building AI into their software: a fixed set of cases that has to pass before anything reaches a customer.
For large public-sector and health-adjacent teams: triage and draft from approved wording, with every action logged for audit.
Read long tender packs and requirements, extract obligations and dates into a checklist, and flag where your response doesn't cover one.
Working with Newcastle
Newcastle is the furthest of our patches, about an hour and a half from Leeds on the East Coast line, so we work with Newcastle businesses remotely from Yorkshire. That suits most of the work. It is a straight run up the East Coast line, so when a kickoff or a workshop is worth the journey, we'll make it in a day.
Delivery itself runs remote-first — weekly demos on a real preview URL, readable diffs, UK office hours. The engineer who writes the proposal writes the code and takes the call when something breaks.
What we build
The full detail — what we build, how it works, pricing — lives on the service pages. They cover the whole of the UK; AI Development & Automation is the place to start.

How much does AI engineering cost? →Frequently asked
Yes. You see progress every week on a real preview URL, and replies come within UK office hours. We meet in person where it matters most: kickoff, architecture sign-off and handover, and we'll travel up for those.
A Blueprint, from £4,500, if you need the architecture and plan on paper before building. The free AI Readiness Assessment if you are not sure AI is the answer. Both give you something you keep whether or not we build the next stage.
Often at the document end: searching reports, extracting findings, drafting summaries with the source page shown. We wouldn't put a model in charge of an integrity decision, and the brief says so in plain words.
A Blueprint from £4,500, builds from £18,000 and AI development from £1,200/month, with scope written down before billing starts. Invoiced in GBP, VAT itemised. The SOW names the technological uncertainties so your accountant can file the R&D tax credit claim without rewriting anything.
You. The repo, the schemas, the eval set, the runbook. No Canarlo SaaS in the loop, no licence fees — plain TypeScript any competent engineer can pick up. Vendor swap is a config change, not a re-architecture.

Twenty minutes, UK office hours. If the work fits, we’ll say so. If you’re better served by an audit first — or by not hiring us at all — we’ll say that too.
